"Things About The Guitar." by José Ramirez III
A collection of highly entertaining and informative articles on the classical guitar, its construction and also on the Ramirez dynasty of guitar makers .
Written in Ramirez's inimitable droll prose style, he draws upon on his personal experiences of over 40 years of luthiery.
The translator occasionally does a bad job on some basic guitar terminology ( e.g."pitted and heat tempered reinforcements" = kerfed and solid linings), but the book is an excellent source of information for luthiers and guitarists alike.
"Antonio de Torres: Guitar Maker - His Life and Work." by José L. Romanillos
This meticulously researched book is divided into two parts. The first relates the life of Torres (1817-92) in the towns of Almeria and Seville; the second one deals with the more technical aspects of his instruments: his method of guitar construction, the plantillas he used, types of wood, the inlays, and his use of the tornavoz. The text also includes a catalogue of all known existing Torres guitars.
"Master Guitars." by Roy Courtnall
An essential text for aspiring classical guitar makers. Part 1 consists of eight chapters: each one presenting a biography and an in-depth plan of an instrument by a master luthier. These include Torres, Hernández, Hauser, Hernández y Aguado, Fleta, Bouchet, Friederich and Romanillos. Parts 2 and 3 describe the tools, materials, and procedures of the Spanish school of guitar construction.
