Guitar studies
I developed an interest in the Spanish guitar in the 1970s when I first heard performances by the guitarists John Williams, Julian Bream and Paco Pena. Following this, I briefly studied classical guitar at the Royal College of Music in London with Charles Ramirez.
Guitar making
My formal training in guitar building began in the the year 2000 in the workshop of the renowned Italian classical guitar maker Franco Barsali. Since then I have continued to build classical guitars in the Spanish tradition, refining my skills and attempting to absorb the many lessons of the art of fine guitar making.
From my research into the work of past and contemporary makers, I have developed two models of instrument that are now on offer.
The school of Madrid influence
I greatly admire the classical and flamenco guitars of the Spanish makers Manuel Ramirez, Santos Hernandez and Domingo Esteso. Their simple elegance of design combined with perfect functionality and beautiful sound place them at the pinnacle of guitar making history.
Workshop located in Florence, Italy
Though born and educated in Essex, England, I have been based in Florence, Italy, since 1987. My studio workshop is located in the historic centre of the city in a quiet flat in the characteristic Santo Spirito area. |
